Every parent knows how expensive it can get when you’re trying to have a fun family outing. One trip to the fair can cost hundreds of dollars, or a museum can set you back fifty dollars or more depending on your family size. It can be hard to figure out what to do when you want to stay on a budget but don’t want to sacrifice bonding activities with your kids. We’ve put together a few ideas you can do with your kids that are fun and free. Building memories doesn’t have to break the bank; keep reading to find out more.

Go to the Park

Parks are an excellent option for kids who have a bunch of energy and need to run it off. Going to your community park gives your child the chance to meet other local kids and develop friendships they may not have had the opportunity to otherwise. A significant problem developing among children is a sedentary lifestyle due to electronics. Going to the park allows them to get the exercise their growing bodies need, all while having a blast. Another benefit is you may get to meet some local moms and have adult conversations. Chances are they are looking for moms to talk to as well, and it’s great to connect with others who are in a similar stage as you.

Bake Together

There are so many benefits to baking with your kids; the list could go on and on. Baking incorporates math skills, problem-solving, reading, and comprehension. When kids are exposed to cooking or baking early, they can develop a love for it, leading to a healthy mindset towards food in the future. If you have a picky child, have them help prepare their food since kids are much more apt to eat something they helped create. Baking together is also a great way to teach them healthy food choices and show them what goes into what they eat. It’s also a great way to bond together and create memories.

Go to the Library

Libraries are a wonderful place for children to learn to love reading, and most libraries offer storytime and other activities that get kids engaged in different stories read to them. If you can open your child’s imagination to the world’s books have to offer, you can help their brains develop and set them up for success late in life. Libraries also help build self-control since it’s a place where you have to keep quiet and not run around. All in all, taking your kids to the library can open their minds and captivate their hearts.

Explore Your Local Farmers Market

Farmers markets are a fun place to introduce your kids to the concept of buying local. They can walk around and see the many different farms and small businesses that are around their area. They can also interact with farmers and business owners to get a first-hand account of what goes into the food they eat and the products they use. Farmer’s markets also give them the chance to get outside and soak up the sun. Try making it even more fun and set up a scavenger hunt. Have them find specific items, and the first one to check off everything on their list wins.

Have a Picnic

Picnics are a fun way to get kids outside and change up a boring meal routine. Bring a frisbee or a kite and let them discover how much fun it can be to use toys without batteries or screens. How about searching for cool new bugs they’ve never seen before? Picnics are a fun time to laugh and let them get as messy as they want. There’s no worry about crumbs when you can just shake off in the grass!

Fun activities don’t have to cost an arm and a leg. There are many things you can do with your kids that will create lasting memories without costing anything. Going to the park, baking together, checking out your local library, exploring the farmers market, or having a picnic are just a few ideas that you can try. Use your imagination and have fun with it; your kids and your bank account will thank you!
